On my second day of African safari (Sept 22nd, 2011), I met an officer who looks after the movement of manpower and logistics. He was full of enthusiasm and positivity though his job position happens to be the most harassed and difficult of the appointments.
He invited us to his office and offered us tea, which he prepared himself; it was the best tea I have had in days. The bad taste of tea I was offered on Celebi Airlines was still there on my tongue and the stare of the Russian steward was still fresh in my memory when I asked him for tea with milk. As we drank our tea he asked us; have you people spoken to folks back home? The answer was obviously ‘no’. Before him we met lot of people but nobody asked us this question, they had their own stories to tell. He gave his phone to us and asked us to call back home. I made my first overseas call to my wife after 40 long hrs since I had left Delhi. The soft sound of hello of my wife made me nostalgic, my eyes became moist and my voice chocked; I could sense that my wife was undergoing the same emotions. This was the longest pause in our conversation since the day we started speaking. I thanked the officer and returned to enjoying the tea.
